Sydney’s streets are illuminated with bright lights and decorations in the lead-up to Christmas, including dramatic digital projections on the facade of historic buildings in Martin Place. Make sure you visit the Village Bizarre Night Markets, check out the light projections and Christmas tree in Martin Place, and drop by Pitt Street Mall to hear traditional Christmas carols.
Christmas Day in Sydney
Sydney is known for hosting fantastic festive events in the lead up to Christmas. From November 26, the Martin Place Christmas Tree will light up every night and display your Christmas text or tweet message between 12pm and 12am. Remember that there may be delays during peak times!
The City also swells with the sounds of glorious music this festive season, as choirs grace the city on Thursday evenings only from 26 November to 22 December in Pitt Street Mall and 27 November to 24 December in Martin Place. Carols in the Domain on Dec 18 is also a much-loved Sydney Christmas tradition.Christmas Day itself is one of the most peaceful days in the city and the ideal time to explore. One major attraction which opens its doors for Christmas Day is Taronga Zoo. Less than a 15 minute ferry ride from the city, enjoy spectacular harbour views as you explore the beautiful grounds, home to over 300 species of animal. Get up close to unique Australian animals such as the echidna and platypus.
