Australian Custom made knives

Here is a small sample of the many handcrafted-knives and bowies that I hand-made over the years at The North River Forge.

Some are made using the hand-forged method while others are by stock removal.

Hand-crafted, crown antler belt knife with a rawhide ferrule. 4 1/4" blade, 8 1/2" overall. Frontier style sheath, rawhide over veg-tan leather. Decorated with a deer hide fringe and trade beads.

Large Bowie knife with an antler grip. Rawhide ferrule and file worked blade. Overall this knife is 14 5/8" long.

Belt/Camp Knife with spalted elm scales. 10 1/4" overall.

#K64 French pistol grip belt knife. Decorated with a rawhide and cord ferrule and brass tacks. Aged blade with hammer and forge marks. 9 1/8" overall.

#K207 frontier Belt Knife. Period style custom knife with aged/weathered maple scales, secured with four copper pins and a rawhide/cord ferrule. File work on spine. 9 5/8" long overall including the forged lanyard. 1095 high carbon steel blade with hammer marks. Antiqued leather sheath with brass tacks.

#K50 Belt knife. Weathered maple scales. Rawhide and cord ferrule. 10 1/8" overall.

Big bowie. I custom-made this large knife for a customer in Australia from 1/4" thick O-1 tool steel. Brass lined lanyard hole, amboyna burl scales and file work.

Period hunter with iron bolsters, brass lined lanyard hole and spalted maple scales. Filework on spine of blade. Frontier style sheath with a partial wrap of buffalo hide and linework. Knife is 7 1/2" long overall.

#K14 Rifleman's Knife Crown antler grip. Rawhide wrap. Hidden tang secured with two brass pins. (under wrap) Filework. 13 1/4" overall. A beautiful period style knife.

Hudson's Bay hand-forged roach belly knife with hammer marks and curly maple scales.

French belt knife. Black walnut scales with cross hatching. Frontier sheath.

#K78 Pistol Grip Bowie Knife A good size Bowie with nice grainy curly maple scales. Rawhide and cord ferrule with brass pins. 11 3/4" overall. Beautiful filework on spine.

#K26 Frontier Hunter. Period style knife with iron bolsters, antler scales and filework. 1095 high carbon steel blade. Knife is 8 1/2" long overall.

Kephart belt knife. Curly maple scales. 9" overall.

#K125 Indian Trade Knife. Curly maple scales. A beautiful period style knife with file work and hammer marks. 9" long overall. Comes with a leather sheath with a partial deer hide wrap.

#K101 Frontier Hunter. Outstanding period style knife with a hand forged lanyard. Rawhide and cord ferrule. Hickory scales. Fileworked blade. Frontier sheath with a rawhide wrap over veg-tan leather. Deer hide fringe and brass tacks. A nice frontier piece. Very sharp blade forged from an antique file with some file teeth still visible. Knife is 8 5/8" long overall including the lanyard.

Frontier style sheath with a rawhide wrap over veg tan leather, decorated with a deerhide fringe and brass tacks.

#K112 Frontier Bowie Knife. Turned hickory grip. Iron ferrule and finger guard. 12 7/8" long overall. Hand forged from an antique file. Some file teeth are still visible. Leather sheath. Filework on spine of blade.
