American influence on Australian culture
Since America and Australia fought together as allies in World War One and World War Two, the two countries have shared a common bond. American soldiers stationed in Australia during the wars brought about an influx of American foods, such as hot dogs and hamburgers, which have since become staples of Australia's fast food industry. Many of the soldiers stationed in Australia initiated and then maintained correspondence with their Australian peers, which led to the creation of a pen pal system that has allowed for the personal exchange of ideas in the decades since World War Two.
This also sparked Australian interest in American culture and politics; it is not uncommon for Australian news sources to report on American elections, celebrity drama and other cultural events. However, this exchange is not one-sided. Musicians such as Iggy Azaleas, Sia, Keith Urban and 5 Seconds of Summer have all topped American music charts and become influential celebrities in America.
