Early Spring Daily Looks

Last week, after a very warm winter in DC, we had a random snow storm.

Yes, the daffodils had already bloomed. Cherry blossoms were poised to open. I had packed away most of my winter items. And I was on Spring break from work. Then there was snow.

Anyway, here’s what I wore. Because it wasn’t a normal work week due to Spring recess, my outfits were casual. I’m happy to report the weather forecast is sunny, warm, and temperatures in the 60s from here on out…

Sunday Afternoon

Anticipating being snowed in this week, my husband and I headed to a local coffee shop to get out of the house and spend a few hours reading, eating ginger scones, and drinking tea.

Monday

Inspired by the winter splendor (albeit in March!), I put on white jeans for the day!

Tuesday

This Zara sweater and Lysee denim leggings are the comfiest!

Wednesday

One thing  I will miss about winter is these long scarfs. Happy I got a chance to wear this gray wool scarf one last time.

Thursday

I did have to attend a work meeting this day, so this White House Black Market jacket fit the bill. I love the buttons on it and how it’s a dupe for a much more expensive Balmain version.

Friday Evening

Have you been watching the show “Love” on Netflix? The themes are pretty gritty but the writing is really really good and I recommend it. Through the first few episodes of Season 2, the main character wears a version of this leather mini skirt.

So that inspired me to wear mine, which I bought at Christmas, but somehow forgot about. Does that ever happen to you?

Wore it to my favorite restaurant right now, an Afghani restaurant where I ate the best spicy lamb.

I guess I should say something about this crochet sweater. I bought it when I was a senior in high school. (I can’t even tell you how long ago that was).

But the important thing is that I loved it so much then (and I still do) that I took extra special care of it through the years. I’m still kind of amazed that it’s lasted this long.

Do you still have something you wore in high school?

Daily Looks

Hi ya’ll… how are YOU all doing this week?

Here’s my latest round of looks and a recap of what I’ve been up to here in DC lately.

Sunday

Sunday is brunch day and Net-a-porter inspired me to wear this off-shoulder black top (perhaps more suited for Saturday night) with a crisp white button up. Also, I’m so excited that long statement earrings are IN. Happy to bring mine out of the jewelry box.

Once again, brunch is at my absolute favorite spot, Le Diplomate. I know I sound like a broken record, but what can I say? The pancakes are really good! off-shoulder-top-white-blouse

Monday

Monday morning and it’s off to work. Today features a tie-neck blouse with a chunky sweater and ankle black pants from Theory. These suede pink pumps add a nice contrast of color, don’t you think?

Tuesday

This day was rainy but on the warmer side. This green skirt is actually a silk sundress with a black turtleneck on top. (You may have noticed I try to get as much mileage as I can from the same pieces.)

My mom bought me this floral umbrella for my birthday, and today it came out with me. I did not coordinate the umbrella with my outfit. It just sort of happened like that.

Wednesday

These pants were purchased from a Michael Kors online sale last year, but I almost didn’t keep them. They were an impulse buy and deep down, I really prefer solid pieces to prints. Somehow I took the plunge, and thankfully they are actually versatile and comfy.

These shoes are from an Italian brand called Fornarina. I bought them ages ago, but have loved them so much through the years that I’ve taken them to a cobbler several times.

Thursday evening

Some Thursdays, my husband and go somewhere casual for dinner. This night we went to Five Guys for burgers and fries. It was a nice evening, so we took the dog and ate outside.

These stretchy pants are from Athleta and can I say, they are so worth the price. I think I paid about $60 for mine, but the quality is really good and they are so comfortable.

Casual Friday

Working from home on Fridays, this is what I wore for errands around town. It turned COLD again, so the puffer coat (which I thought had retired for the season) was pulled out of the storage.

Work Day Lunch at Central

img_2361

This post 2 weeks ago  talked about a coping strategy for those non-stop busy and stressful work weeks: fancy lunch!

Central Michel Richard in downtown DC is one of my favorite places to enjoy a weekday lunch. The food is so delicious and I love seeing the new seasonal items they add to the menu every few months. In particular, the desserts are heavenly and I always try something unique.

On this day, my husband and I got a bowl of french onion soup and shared a Manhattan (pictured above). It was a Friday at the end of a long work week, after all.

Next up was shrimp risotto with saffron. This dish was so delectable. Risotto is one of those things I rarely eat at lunch since I don’t want to fall asleep from carb overload afterwards, but this day, ordering the risotto just seemed right. img_2363

We also shared the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. If you’re ever in DC and stop by this restaurant, you must order this just to taste the potatoes, which are the silkiest potatoes around, I think.  (I’d argue they’re actually the star of the dish)

For dessert, the Napoleon called to us, and look how beautiful it was!  This dessert tastes so good with a bitter latte.

You might be wondering how to eat this since it’s sky high. You just take a fork and smash down all the layers, so in essence you’re eating a bunch of cream with shards of phyllo pastry. It’s so light and creamy and perfect after a heavy meal. img_2367

Most workdays at my desk, I eat a rather uninspired lunch of salad or a sandwich brought from home.

But during rough weeks, it feels so luxurious to go out to somewhere nice. Looking forward to it definitely helps getting through those long days.

How do you handle your long busy weeks?
