A few months ago, the lovely blogger Allegra Ghiloni nominated me for an Internet blogger award and presented some questions to answer so readers could get to know me better.
I haven’t shared too much personal information here, so I thought this would be a nice way to do that.
I also love getting to know all of you, so please feel free to share in the comments!
1 – What inspired you to start blogging?
I’ve always loved writing and been interested in fashion, though I veered towards punk and alternative style in my younger days. In high school, I made a few odd pieces out of fabric and felt so creative (though I can’t promise they were anything nice to look at!)
Through the years, my style got more conservative after living abroad in Africa for 2 years. I started to feel that focusing on personal style was excessive, considering poverty in the world and other more important things going on.
However, in my 40s now, I really appreciate the creativity that goes into putting together outfits and presenting yourself in the best way possible. I love bloggers who are resourceful and come up with great outfits without spending a lot of money. I also felt like blogging would be a fun way to tap into a sense of personal style that I lost through the years.
2 – Do you do any writing outside of your blog?
I do a lot of writing at my job and also have a travel blog, where I go into more detail about my travels and life with my husband in Washington DC and beyond.
3 – What gives you inspiration for your post topics?
I get inspired by travel and seeing how other people dress and adorn themselves around the world. I also happen to love street fashion.
4 – Who do you hope reads your blog?
Women interested in travel, culture, food, and small pleasures in life.
5 – Where is the best place you have traveled to?
6 – Which three people inspire you the most? (Famous or Non-Famous)
In terms of style inspiration, I’d say Audrey Hepburn, because her style is timeless, Amal Clooney because she balances professional looks with cool outfits, and I love how creative Blaire Eadie of Atlantic Pacific is.
7 – What is your favorite book, song and film?
My favorite book is Time and Again by Jack Finney. It’s a time travel book in which the main character goes back to 1870s Manhattan on a special government top secret mission but then falls in love with a girl who lives in his boarding house.
My favorite film stars Kate Winslet in the movie Hideously Kinky. The title sounds so weird, but it’s about her character’s adventures in Morocco in the late 60s. It sort of reminds me of my Peace Corps time in Africa, so I related to it well.
8 – What is your perfect day?
My perfect day is actually really simple. There would be no plans really except hanging around the house with family all day, playing music, talking, laughing, cooking, and sharing food.
