Fall Must Have Coat

My must have fall coat for a rainy gray day in DC? This lightweight wool red topper from Ann Taylor…

My husband and I recently took advantage of a drizzly day to do some monument-hopping in our nation’s capital. DC monuments are super crowded every single day of the year, but poor weather minimizes the hoards of people somewhat.

Ah… people. Just before this photo, a crazy jogger ran by and yelled some obscenities at us!

In any case, it was the perfect 50 degree day to wear this lightweight coat from Ann Taylor. I got mine years ago, and it’s still going strong, but there is a very similar version of this red coat in the store nowfall-outfit2

My outfit was actually inspired by Amal Clooney, who recently sported a red coat over a wintry floral dress with tights and booties. Instead, I opted for my new Charles and David pumps, which are actually walkable.

This coat is great for keeping you toasty during cool fall mornings and light enough that you don’t feel overheated when the temps warm up in the afternoon.

There are so many versions of this topper now in really fun colors. I’m thinking of going for bright green or yellow later this fall.

What about you? What’s your must have fall coat? In what color? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hello Mary! That coat is just perfect! Love the style and the color very much. I don’t get to wear lots of fall coats here in Orlando just because the weather doesn’t get cold enough during fall or spring and when it gets too cold during the winter months I don’t go out:-) Am I spoiled or what? You look super beautiful wearing that classy and stylish look Mary. Have a blessed weekend! XOXO, Jeannette

    1. Thanks Jeannie!
I used to love visiting my cousins in FL growing up for exactly the reason that it didn’t get cold there! Warm and sunny on Xmas day!

  2. What a beautiful look! I have coats but don’t get to wear them much since it does not get cold enough for them in California. I love wearing cozy boyfriend cardigans this time of the year, they feel like a giant blanket.

Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you Thursday.

    1. Hi Alice,
I used to live in San Diego, so I know what those southern ca winters are like… I remember being able to wear a coat like this there just at night and in the mornings during fall and winter. That’s something though!
